The good:
12 - 18 months contract (w/ the option for United Healthcare after 3
months - about $40 a week for the coverage, not bad)
the pay is good (in the ballpark of $40 to $45 an hour, depending on experience, etc)

the pace is fast, but not too insane - multitasking skills are a bonus though.

The encryption platform is client-server based and web interface managed, with an appliance backend. Support entails working with clients to test, implement, and troubleshoot issues with the encryption process and service.

The role of the Systems Engineer is a hybrid technical role in developing, integrating, managing and maintaining infrastructure resources. The position consists of diverse technical responsibilities that will incorporate a number of technical disciplines including, Network, Corporate and Data Center Environments, Server and Applications arenas.

Under general supervision, this centralized position, supporting Iveda Solutions and all of its customers, plans, implements and manages moderately complex existing network systems required to maintain and/or expand service levels. This position is accountable for the operations, maintenance, compliance, and integrity of all Linux and Microsoft based systems, Web servers, VMware, and associated Data Bases.

This position will also act in a technical support role for Iveda Solutions Management team, helping support partners technologies, integrate network solutions, and identify potential partnership growth and development.

A thorough knowledge and understanding of Linux technologies as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field are required. Experience with CentOS and Debian preferred as well as a solid background with Microsoft technologies.

The Global Support Engineer (GSE) - Full Time Permanent Position

The Global Support Engineer (GSE) is part of a highly-focused 24/7 support/system administration team with responsibility for managing our client’s mission critical application environments. The GSE team is responsible for day-to-day proactive administration and operational support for the server and application environments with the objective of 100% business availability. The GSE team designs and implements best practices methodologies for change management and ongoing operations, and designs and implements proactive monitoring, problem resolution, and corrective action procedures. GSEs must possess a passion for this support role and how it contributes to meeting the client’s business objectives. An effective GSE possesses a broad background in technology combined with strong collaboration and teamwork capabilities.

The GSE team sets up and configures application and database servers, and installs operating system releases, security releases, and application releases into production, QA, and backup environments. Through formal training and hands-on experience, the GSE team acquires application knowledge that is utilized to fine tune the day-to-day operations of the client’s mission critical environment. The GSE team develops an understanding and familiarity with network connections into and out of the environments and works with other support personnel in troubleshooting network issues. The GSE team is responsible for monitoring system and network availability, application availability, and overall platform performance. Responsibilities include troubleshooting of incidents and exception situations, working closely with the application development team, and collaborating effectively with other support organizations. The GSE team takes the lead in driving all issues to closure.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Disks Available

Scott Gwin tells me the AZloco ( http://www.azloco.com/ ) has received their shipment of Ubuntu 10.04 disks from Canonical. People may pick up a copy at the Installfest or the East Side meetings and Stammtische. Ubuntu and Kubuntu Desktop as well as Server disks are available. In fact, we can make disks for other derivatives as well but we do not have have professionally pressed disks for them.

Escalante Center Installfest Cancelled

The Installfest which had been planned for May 8 at the Escalante Community Center has been cancekked!

It is not yet clear whether more will be scheduled for that location.

Nov-Dec Installfest

A notification went out tonight about an Installfest scheduled for 11/28. I do not know how that originated but it was in error.

The Installfest for November and December is scheduled for 12/5 from 10am to 4pm at UAT. Everything is the same except the date since we never do the last Saturday in November or December.

PHP Developer

PHP Developer needed for a custom download manager project. The goal of this tool will be to install on a user's machine and then via a php scrip scan an origin server to download all relevant content to the local machine. This would apply to http services and it would check for new content and then download on a specified time basis. The client currently has a solution with Streaming Media Hosting.
